Senior Shipwright

The Senior Shipwright position involves leading and executing complex wooden boat restorations and new construction projects with precision and care. Responsibilities include lofting, framing, planking, joinery, and overseeing structural repairs. The role requires a deep understanding of traditional and modern techniques, the ability to interpret plans, and a high level of craftsmanship. Experience with team leadership, time management, and material selection is essential.

Junior Shipwright

The Junior Shipwright position supports restoration and construction projects under the guidance of senior staff. Tasks include milling, fastening, caulking, fairing, and assisting with general boat repair and maintenance. The role requires a foundational understanding of tools and materials, a willingness to learn traditional methods, and the ability to take direction and work as part of a team. Hands-on experience in a boatyard or related trade is preferred.

Labour

The Labourer position involves general support across the boatyard, including cleaning, sanding, painting, material handling, and assisting shipwrights as needed. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a positive attitude toward manual work in a dynamic environment. Basic tool knowledge and prior experience in construction, marine work, or a similar trade are an asset but not required.

Work-away

This is a hands-on volunteer position supporting traditional wooden boat restoration and general yard tasks. Duties may include sanding, painting, cleaning, and assisting with various projects depending on skill level. Ideal for those interested in maritime heritage, woodworking, or learning by doing. Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Wooden Boat Builder to join our team. The ideal candidate has expertise in wooden
vessel construction, restoration, and repair, with proficiency in specialty tools and materials.
Key Responsibilities
• Build, repair, and restore wooden vessels using traditional and modern techniques.
• Work with specialty hardwoods, softwoods, and marine materials.
• Use specialty hand tools, including planes, chisels, adzes, and caulking irons.
• Read and interpret boat building plans and historical drawings.
• Apply traditional joinery techniques (lapstrake, carvel, clinker).
• Perform caulking, fairing, and finishing work to high standards.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in wooden boatbuilding or shipwright work.
• Skilled in specialty hand tools and woodworking machinery.
• Strong understanding of traditional and modern wooden boat construction.
• Detail-oriented, problem-solving, and able to work independently or in a team.
• Ability to supervise co-workers.
• Willing to work in a fast-paced environment
