The Favourite Crew

Lyle

Lyle

Founder

Wooden boat fanatic since a small boy. Started restoring the sealing schooner "favourite" 4 years ago and in the process a business was born as a byproduct. Favourite boatworks is one of his proudest accomplishments as an artist and craftsman and he's looking forward to bringing an enjoyable experience to wooden boat enthusiasts when it comes to the service and repair of their vessels.

Jonathan

Jonathan

Apprentice Shipwright

Jonathan grew up in the US midwest, with only ponds and rivers nearby. So he grew up canoeing and dreaming of saltwater. When he moved to Vancouver in his late 20s, he took up kayaking. He almost went to boat building school, but instead spent twenty years in inner city charity work, financially subsidized with side gigs in residential renovations and custom cabinetry.

After 3 years of apprenticeship in DARAK shipyard in Brittany and completing 2 diplomas in shipwrighting, I have spent time working on famous classic boats as Moonbeam IV and a lot of J class boats. I learned all the sailing culture and how to use the crafts I was building there.

Emerson

Years later after canoeing the salt and fresh waters around the lower mainland, it was time for a new adventure.

Rowen

Rowen

Apprentice Shipwright

I came from a background in timber framing and cabinetry. My former boss Brent ash had a boat in the same marina as favourite boatworks and heard about the project and recommended I apply. I have always been interested in boat building and I recently found a list of my child hood dream jobs and number 3 was cabinet maker for sailing boats so I jumped at the opportunity to cross another dream job off the list.

James

James

James McConnell, born Frederick Lorne, grew up in Square Rig.

racing then boatbuilding. He sailed the Lady Jean, a reproduction
of a New York Bay sloop or Sandbagger most of his life.

Jacob

Jacob

Apprentice Rigger

Prior to the Northstar I did some flying around BC but soon found out how limited your time was in the air. Seeking a more 'it's the journey not the destination' life, lead me to boats and the desire to continue one of the oldest traditions of travel, sailing; and of course the second oldest tradition, repairing sailboats.

I have been around boats and water all my life: canoes, kayaks, sailboats, and now a 47' wooden power cruiser. I own and am restoring the Western Yew, a former luxury yacht and BC Forest Service boat, built in 1946 by Gordon H. Oliver, designed by Milton Veale. In Grade 10, I built an 8’ sailing pram (Sabot), my first foray into boat building, and sailed the pram extensively around Granite Bay on Quadra Island.
